“So, Why Have You Never Been Married?”: A Memoir of Love, Loss and Lunacy
“So, Why Have You Never Been Married?”: A Memoir of Love, Loss and Lunacy” is, first and foremost, a narrative.
It tells the story of one man’s search for enduring love over almost four decades.
It is funny, poignant, silly, wise, heartbreaking and – most of all – brutally honest.
What Real Readers Have Said About “So, Why Have You Never Been Married?”
“Who could resist the title ‘So, Why Have You Never Been Married?’ Not me, that’s for sure. I started to read the book expecting to be entertained by tales of great dating disasters and given a free pass into the inner sanctum of the dating man’s mind…….maybe now I’ll understand. It was all this and so much more. Mr. Stransman recollects and relates his journey through the often perilous world of dating. He does so with candor, humor, charming, self deprecating honesty and something approaching self-destructive fun. Meanwhile, threading through the events are moments of startling self-realization and unexpected tenderness.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book….I laughed,I cried and sometimes found myself doing both at once. It will have men and women nodding in recognition at the situations which arise and for very different reasons. Yet both men and women will enjoy the lessons learned from the common thread that connects us all….the need to love and to be loved. An excellent read.”
A testimonial from reader Colette Stevenson
And another…..
I finished your book today. I enjoyed it. You have a humorous take on everything which must be how you have survived all these women! You must feel like somewhat of an expert in the game of love and I am sure it will arrive again if it hasn’t already. Humour is the great unspoken gift. It’s the only way to get through the day and on the occasions I had a laugh-out-loud moment in the reading of the book, I was brought back by the literary references that have enriched your love of the written text and enabled you to learn the craft of writing. You clearly love to write. You’re lucky to have such a passion!

And this one….
It was reassuring to “compare notes” mentally and to realize yet again how much faith and trust we put out every time we open our hearts for the possibility of sharing love – regardless how our track records might indicate we’d be wiser not to! The author deserves a great deal of respect for sharing the journey so openly and honestly. Thank you for the comforting message that “no matter how many relationships ended, I’m grateful for the experience”.

An Homage to Henry Miller
While my book, “‘So Why Have You Never Been Married?’: A Memoir of Love, Loss and Lunacy” may be one of the most original books about love you may ever read, it is, first and foremost, an entertainment.
It is intended to deliver the reading pleasure of fiction, even though it is based on fact.
It belongs to a genre of literature known as “literary non-fiction”.
“‘So, Why Have You Never Been Married?’: A Memoir of Love, Loss and Lunacy” was written as an homage to some of the writers who had a profound impact upon me as I was growing up – writers like Henry Miller and D.H. Lawrence, whose classic works “Tropic of Cancer” and “Lady Chatterly’s Lover”, respectively, were the forbidden fruits of my adolescence.
It was not until I was in my twenties, studying English Literature in university, that I came to understand what a work of comic genius “Tropic of Cancer” is, along with the other books by Henry Miller.
As for D. H. Lawrence – his masterpiece, “Women In Love” was the subject of my Master’s thesis in graduate school, but it is the tale of Connie Chatterly and her gamekeeper lover in “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” that is not only my favourite among Lawrence’s novels, but one of my favourite books of all time.
